responders who were the first people to enter the sandy hook elementary school and discover the carnage there that ended up being the loss of 20 children and six adults in that school and then, of course, the mother of the killer who was shot in her bed and the killer himself. the attorney general apparently is not traveling with any other senior justice officials to newtown. he will also not be attending any of the funerals or the memorials. and again, you will not be seeing the pictures of him. there's no plan for this to be anything public other than these meetings he's going to have with those law enforcement officials. but, of course, this is a day of more farewells in newtown. six, six funerals in this tiny community, six visitations also. so 12 services. these people being laid to rest today, allison wyatt, she is just gorgeous. she loved to draw. and she told her parents she wanted to be an artist. benjamin wheeler, look at that smile. he's just so sweet. huge fan of the beatles. his parents tell us. and then look at this. catherine hubbard, you almost know her personality from

adam oepd fire in sandy hook elementary school, but a person that knows him says he hadn't had communication with his son in about two years when adam cut his father out of his life about the time the elder lanza remarried. until then, peter lanza, an executive with ge, seen in this linked in photo, had weekly visits with adam. according to the same source that told us lanza didn't live the in the newtown since 2001, eight years before his divorce with ex-wife nancy was finalized. in the hours after the shooting a reporter for the stamford advocate outside peter lanza's house told cnn lanza was unauto wear of his son's involvement in the shooting. >> i said we received a report that somebody at this address is connected to the shooting in newtown. his face just went from -- you know, he'd been this very polite stranger making pleasantries with me, and he went from that to sort of shock and then just this horrified look. essentially declined comment, rolled up his window and went inside his house. >> since then he released a statement expressing condolences for victims' families

do have a big disaster like sandy, we've almost always spent all the money because it was pretty easy to have a governor ask for a disaster and the president to declare it, and then the money is gone. fema primarily relied on the per capita damage indicator as the criteria rather than whether or not the local community really had the resources to deal with this on its own. there was no specific criteria in fema to decide at what point we paid various percentages up to 100% coming from the federal government, and the fema administrative costs from 1989 to 2011 had doubled. it had increased from 9% of every disaster to an average of 18% of every disaster. so g.a.o. recommended that we look -- do several things. that fema develop a methodology to more accurately assess what a jurisdiction was able to do, that we develop criteria to know when the federal government should accept all of the obligation, 100% of the adjusted cost, and that we implement new goals to track why these costs of administering disasters were going up so dramatically. so hopefully we can do that, we can look at the

not really an emergency, but for the emergency, i don't hear anybody wanting money for sandy any different than any other emergency, and i hope nobody is saying that sandy ought to be treated differently than an earthquake in california or a hurricane in the south or tornadoes in the midwest or droughts wherever they might happen. and i haven't surmised that's what they're trying to do. if they are, they hadn't shouldn't say that sandy ought to be treated differently than a different disaster because generally a disaster is a disaster, whether it's earthquake, hurricane, tornado, or sandy. so the money's going to be there and will be there on time. and you don't know exactly one month after a disaster exactly how much money is needed. in fact, they asked from the governors of those states for $80 billion. the president sent up $64 billion. some people in our area of expertise on this in our caucus have said there are certain things that aren't authorized, so that shouldn't be expended and then i point out about some vehicles that can't be purchased right now to do the good that t

of newtown, connecticut endured a fourth day of funerals for the mass shooting victims at sandy hook elementary school. police escorted processions of mourners as five more children and a teacher were laid to rest. services are also scheduled tomorrow and into the weekend. meanwhile in washington, vice president joe biden met with cabinet and law enforcement officials to discuss ways of reducing gun violence. later, attorney general eric holder headed to newtown to meet with those investigating the shootings. the first major winter storm of the season moved across the midwest today and began taking a toll on holiday travelers. blizzard warnings stretched from kansas to wisconsin as the weather system pushed eastward. it has already dumped a foot of snow in some areas, driven by powerful winds. in turn, some of the nation's busiest airports are reporting hundreds of flight delays and cancellations. the countdown to the end of the world was on today, at least in some places. it's based on a reading of the mayan calendar that says a final cataclysm will strike, tomorrow. we have a repor
